Version 2: Notes

A lot has been accomplished with my recent redesign, the best of which is a much more extensible design than my last one, which will give me a stronger framework for doing new things.
Much has already been added, with more yet to come. Here are some highlights:
- Moved to TextDrive's server. Should be a bit more stable than my prior host, I hope. I still have to iron some stuff out with the server move, but it went fairly smoothly, which was great.
- New archives. Rather than just listing all the entries on the site, I list them more thoroughly, grouping by date, popularity, and my personal favorites.
- Recent discussion and recent/popular entries on the homepage. This should make it easier for visitors to find what they are looking for, enabling them to either view the most recent entries or the most popular entries.
- Yellow fade technique when linking to comments.
- An intuitive error message on my contact page. Go ahead, error it, you won't be disappointed... :)
- Friends and Colleagues section lists the time of their last update. (or will, once I get the cron working correctly ;)
- Distractions work much better, displaying the description I write directly on the page, rather than in the links title attribute, which wasn't good. It also allowing me to set a referrer, so I can attribute links properly. One day I hope to make this script available to those who would like to use it...
- Better default styles for unordered lists, ordered lists, blockquotes, display images, etc.
Next up, I'll explain the grid system used with this design...

Coo, coo. One thing that happened to catch my eye was the misspelling of Katrina on the Distractions page ;)
Otherwise, my only other complaint would be that the headers with and without links on the Archives page are formatted exactly the same.
Good job overall, though!
EDIT: Oh, and the yellow fading goes crazy when clicked 2 or 3 times in concession.

And... the "formatting help" link is dead.
There's a hideous spelling mistake on the formatting help page,
"If the formatting checkbox is not checked, you're comments will not be formatted..."
Ryan, the box goes crazy for me as well. ;)
Wow well the nice design is an amazing improvement and has provided me with some inspirtation and small ideas for my next redesign, because I recently switched to type space, and well I definatly need to redesign, and whitespace style design is definatly in order here. I am looking into working on something to show off the new webdesign skills I have recently gained in all my young age!
Well What blogging system are you using, if you havent already told this in a previous post, but once again, LOOKING GREAT MAN.
I think he might be using his own TypeSpace blogging system.
Exactly, info coming soon. :)
Oh yes lol sorry I frogot to look harder, but he previously posted that he was contemplating switching to textpattern so I was just curious, because I have recently switched to TextpAtterm!
Looks very nice Ryan. I like the menu, it looks almost like the menu that Keith had in his previous design. It is indeed an amazing improvement.
Another thing - if I recall correctly I signed up for TypeSpace beta testing, but I never got an email or something. I suppose I'll wait for more information ;).
I just noticed how similar your R is compared to the site you did for rearden ;)
Nice job overall, though! Well the nice design. I like it
Awesome site! I too love how you handle the archives. I've tried to add some of the same look to my website (which is still a work in progress). I hope you don't mind. I'd love to see your TypeSpace whenever it is finished.
Cheers!

I like the archive page. That's definitely a weak point for a lot of blogs. Of course, now that I'm running Typo, I haven't got even the foggiest clue where to start in with making something like that. (well, I have a few clues, but not too many)
Grid system, eh? Kinda looks like old-school ALA... floated content with a left-margined sidebar. I've always been an opposing-floats person myself, but I'll be interested to hear your explanations.
